The Dowsing Rod

We all have a dowsing rod or a personal indicator. Call it intuition if you like. It’s intelligence is more than we can possibly imagine. It is our Inner Guide.

When we come to Earth, our dowsing rods are calibrated to certain things. Like becoming a doctor or a minister perhaps, or a great artist, maybe even an ordinary artist - or a mother or whatever interest our soul or heart longs to experience - like collecting heart rocks.

It is much simpler to go with our dowsing rod’s natural attunement than we think. For me, as strange as it sounded to me years ago, I am naturally oriented towards teaching love and compassion - and heart rocks are the physical expression of an inner longing.

Everyone is following, to the best of their ability, their dowsing rod. Now, we must let the people who are supposed to make the money, make the money. We must let the artisans who are expressing new pathways, to create. And it is also essential to let the politicians do whatever politicians do. And, what would happen, if we reoriented our attention to what stirs the heart?

Perhaps, were we to take more time tuning into our Inner Guide, we wouldn't experience such collective disparity, or individual miscreation. Perhaps more attentiveness to our dowsing rod would keep us clear of the drama and chaos of life, while guiding us to more fulfilling endeavors.

Yet, it is not like we can get this inner indicator right or understand it in a classroom, or in one afternoon along the trail. To discover the intelligence of our dowsing rod takes sustained effort in doing nothing while deeply listening. Reevaluating our standards then becomes essential, to shift our beliefs about what is truly valuable and nurturing, and what usually has our attention, is worthless.

It's an entrainment - something that grows with sustained effort - something we learn as we go along. As we follow our inner nudging - this feeling, this calling - something happens within us exploring the cause and effect of being. We learn faith in something we cannot explain. In our patience to become a student, our trust becomes the looking glass into a new reality. We become aware of merely touching the hem of an infinite divine garment we desire to explore. As we do, life begins to naturally entrain with us. These are the people with whom we fall in love, become friends, perhaps even conduct business and build community. Likewise, the animals we encounter on the trail, new inspiration we gain and the projects we initiate enriching our experience. We become life artists.

Our dowsing rod connects us to an invisible realm of existence our five senses cannot perceive – one of the Master Intelligence or God. This Intelligence is boundless and essential as we learn to travel into external and internal worlds, being guided in mysterious ways. Exploring this inner superpower, we merge with the infinite which, is both everything and nothing.

Finding heart rocks is vital to me because the search represents something innate, pure and often overlooked, allowing me to suspend my thinking mind in the quest. In the silence, my awareness expands beyond reason. As an artist, this process is essential to my creativity and natural to my soul.It always leaves me refreshed and inspired.

As we look for heart rocks, and it could be butterflies, birds or teaching children nature, we can listen to vitality and participate in those things our busy world hides from us. In this, we activate our awareness of what has always been working perfectly for us, our dowsing rod.

In the same way facial recognition is now widely understood, I have a recognition that can scan a hillside and immediately pick up the shape of a heart, be it a leaf, moss or a rock. Sometimes, heart rocks call to me. I'll just be walking down a path and receive a nudge to walk off trail to a certain spot, and sure enough, I look down and there it lies. Extraordinarily, since everything is made up of the same subatomic particles with the breath of life of God in them, all have consciousness. Therefore, everything is connected on an invisible network beyond our ability to understand.

Little did I know 30 years ago, through my efforts of playfulness, I would go on to find tens of thousands of heart rocks over decades, and pick up thousands more to make art. Did you know heart rocks are found in clusters? It seems that certain landscapes with more pitch, favor the creation of a heart shaped rock.

Lately, I have been placing them in trees along the hiking trails of West Sedona, Arizona. When I find one, I locate the nearest suitable tree and place it in the branches and take one photo. When I find a cluster, it is like having an impromptu art project magically appear. One in which I cannot help but to immerse myself. The best photos became both; a set of forgiveness greeting cards and illustrations in my most recently published book: “Single Stream: Eyes of the Master.” The creative process gave me the empty mind necessary to design the cards and write the book.

Often in the process, I would artistically get lost searching for hearts and decorating trees, while my dog Luna, a white Shepard husky mix with light gold shimmers of hair and golden ears, would lose herself as well.

Luna isn’t a regular dog. She has long made herself known as a spirit companion and guide, often chasing coyotes through the bush at unbelievable speeds with astonishing dexterity around all kinds of cacti. The more time I spent on making altars of the trees, the more comfortable she became in the desert.

Luna is usually easy to find; a large white dog amongst sparce evergreens on a red rock canvas. All I must usually do is climb upwards and look to the landscape below – but in this period, she was becoming increasingly mysterious and difficult to locate.

A frustration grew, as she would often stretch her disappearing act into hours, with the sun often too hot for her heavy coat – making my wife nervous and me late for appointments. Determined to sort this out, I surrendered my frustration to discover Luna.

Ultimately, to my astonishment, through meditation, I realized Luna was inviting me to learn what she already knew – She could be found through our connectivity. I started closing my eyes with the image of Luna in my mind, and a dim ray of light would point me in a direction. It operates like a compass, with the arrow swiveling to orient my direction. Invariably, this dowsing rod of light would direct me to her, or directly onto the path of where we were to arrive simultaneously.

There became between us, a shared elation of the learning process: I would find her, and she would wag her tail. Each day then, became a new classroom exercise as I engaged the training to master this art of tracking. Luna became my instructor, and I became willing to have my mind blown and my eyes opened. Every day opened a deeper level of awareness.

What is hidden just beyond the reality we expect to see? What inspiration can we find, despite the challenges of this world?

The not-obvious-yet to ordinary folks is that of folklore and fantasy, while to some of us this reality is simply more obvious. Oftentimes, I observe hikers walking right by a display of heart rocks without ever seeing them. Sometimes, I stop and point them out. Often, it is welcomed.

We are all, regardless of our awakened awareness, walking past versions of the not-obvious-yet. This realization is to take responsibility for a newly inspired willingness to see and correct our vision. It is to reacquaint ourselves with the longings of our hearts to live in God’s Universe, or New Earth.

What is that one thing we can each do to cultivate and share as expression that frees us for moments and more on a hike, in an artistic project or listening deeply in a conversation with a dear friend? What is this courageous practice of joy which can only connect us to a more conscious way of creation?

We are all perfectly operating no matter where we perceive ourselves to be on our evolutionary track. We are all learning how to connect and utilize the Intelligence to transcend the ordinary, because it has become so obvious that in The Ordinary World, we operate only with eyes of the past.

Those of us who desire to see something beyond the obviously ordinary, must probe deeper into this process of universal aliveness by which everything is connected. This is the initiation of the Hero’s Journey – to bring back the elixir of our transformation to others, reporting there is nothing to fear when we let go of old perceptions – that in truth another world exists right here, right now. It is mystical, magical, beautiful and powerful, and perfectly true.

We are now moving beyond what people might call the Law of Attraction into the Law of Unfoldment, which is to say that as more of us let go of the ordinary perception of a world that is insane, mad and conflicted, we are able to see beyond Illusion, into truth.

When we tune into our inner dowsing rods, we learn conflict is of perception. In this determined choice to see through the eyes of the heart, listen with the ears of the heart and speak with the tongue of the heart, we let go and find forgiveness in an unforgiven world. Our inner guide awakens, and we experience Heaven on Earth. The more people who see and agree this world exists as the true divine reality, then collectively we can evolve in the way of our Creator’s intention. And in truth, it is already done.

We already have everything. Scarcity is merely partial sight. There can be no sacrifice in remembering the love we truly are by seeing through The Eyes of the Master.

God Bless You and have the very best of days!
